A project led by Prof. Teng Jin-guang of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has been awarded a grant of more than HK$47.2 million in the eighth round of Research Grants Council Theme-based Research Scheme 2018/19, the largest amount of funding among the five projects selected.
In view of the severe deterioration problem of marine infrastructure caused by steel corrosion, the project targets to develop a new type of concrete structures that would allow direct use of seawater and sea-sand in concrete making.
