In the age of industry 4.0 with rapid advances across design and technology, PolyU and the Royal College of Art (RCA) are combining their art and design research expertise to establish the world’s first facility that integrates AI into product and service design. In the witness of HKSAR Chief Executive Mrs Carrie Lam, PolyU Interim President Prof. Philip C. H. Chan and RCA Vice-Chancellor Dr Paul Thompson signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of this PolyU|RCA Artificial Intelligence Design Laboratory.
The lab aims to advance the integration of AI into design, and address industry demands for efficiency, automation and customising products and services. PolyU’s multi-disciplinary researchers will collaborate with RCA in research projects covering areas like affective computing and social robots, intelligent fashion design, intelligent textile and apparel design and manufacturing, innovative materials etc. This will contribute to the innovation and technology development in Hong Kong as well as the Greater Bay Area.
