Summary

Led by Dr Ting, participants will return to Quanzhou, known as the starting point of the maritime Silk Road and explore its unique and diverse culture and understand its crucial historical role by visiting various historical, cultural and religious sites around the city.

Sites to be visited (available in Chinese only):
老君岩、開元寺、清淨寺、靈山聖墓、草庵摩尼教寺、九日山、洛陽橋、海外交通博物館、晉江博物館、蔡氏古民居群、崇武古城、陳埭丁氏祠堂等。

• Priority will be given to applicants who have attended the Talk 2 “The Silk Road of the Sea: The Rise of Maritime Civilizations” on 15 November 2016. 
• For PolyU students and staff only.
• Lots will be drawn by computer to determine the successful applicants.
• The programme will be conducted in Cantonese. 
• Tour fee is required.

About Dr Joseph S. P. Ting:
Dr Joseph S. P. Ting was born in Guangzhou and is a native of Fengshun County in Guangdong. He acquired his BA, M.Phil and PhD from the University of Hong Kong. Prior to his retirement, he was the Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of History.
He is currently an Adjunct Professor and Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Comparative and Public History, Department of History, Chinese University of Hong Kong; Expert Adviser of the Hong Kong Museum of Art and Museum of History; member of the Antiquities Advisory Board; trustee of the Lord Wilson Heritage’s Trust;  Vice-President of the Local Gazetteer Office; Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong Branch of the Royal Asiatic Society; Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Education; Honorary Fellow of the University of Hong Kong; and adviser to a number of cultural institutions in Hong Kong and on the Mainland.
