Synopsis
Inherit the Wind, a modern theatrical classic written by American writers Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee in 1955, sets its stage in a courtroom where a secondary school teacher is prosecuted for teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution. Two prominent lawyers debate and defend their own beliefs, essentially symbolizing the Fundamentalist-Modernist controversy. This play is a fictionalized account of the historic Scopes Monkey Trial in 1925, which cast a long shadow in many aspects of American society.
Directed by Mr Luther Fung, this reader’s theatre production is jointly presented and produced by the PolyU Theatre and Hong Kong Federation of Drama Societies. Dr Chung King-fai, Mr Ngai Ping-long and members of the PolyU Theatre are among the cast. Inherit the Wind will be performed in Cantonese using the script translated by Mr Dominic Cheung.
