Summary
Guangcai Porcelain Workshop
Guangcai porcelain is the characteristic style of ceramic ware decorated in Guangzhou. It was inscribed onto the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China in 2008, and the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Hong Kong in 2014. Combining theory and practice, this workshop will guide participants to learn about the craft of decorating Guangcai porcelain, with an emphasis on the lines, brushwork, techniques, colouring and composition in the traditional Lingnan style of painting.
Mr Liu Chi-yuen, the workshop tutor, is an internationally renowned porcelain painter. His works are collected by various museums in China and around the world, and they have been featured in showcases attended by foreign dignitaries. He is currently the Chairman of Society of Lingnan Style of Painting and Guangcai Porcelain. His father Liu Qunxing (1887-1979) was the first disciple of Gao Jianfu (1879-1951), the grandmaster of the Lingnan style of painting, and he was also a maestro of Guangcai porcelain. From the age of eight, Liu was mentored by his father in Chinese painting, and the making and decoration of Cantonese porcelain.
