Biography

Dr HUA Wen is currently an Associate Professor (Presidential Young Scholar Scheme) in the Department of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She received her Bachelor’s and PhD degrees in Computer Science from Renmin University of China in 2010 and 2015 respectively. Before joining PolyU, she worked as a Senior Lecturer (tenured) and a Senior Research Fellow (awarded by the Australian Research Council) in the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering at the University of Queensland. She was awarded the Advance Queensland Early Career Research Fellowship (AQRF) in 2017 and the ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) in 2021, two highly competitive fellowships for early-career researchers. Her current research interests include information extraction and retrieval, data mining, natural language processing, spatiotemporal data management, high performance query processing, and social media analytics. She has published 80+ papers in reputed journals and top international conferences in the fields of database and data mining. She received the ICDE 2015 Best Paper Award, the CIKM 2022 Best Paper Honorable Mention Award, and some other research awards.
