Internationalization at Home: Collaborative Online International Learning among peers as a means to improve English proficiency
Abstract:
This exciting, TDG funded ‘Internationalization at Home project’ (IaH) revolves around an intensive collaboration between PolyU’s School of Design (SD) and the UK’s University of Arts (UAL/LCC). In Semester 2 (2020/21) a total of 120 design students, split evenly between the two schools, participated in a 10-week-long intervention utilizing Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) as a means to help improve their English language proficiency.
This talk will relate the contextual background of the project, the used methodology, the implemented interventions, some encouraging initial findings, and some of the hardships encountered in this purely online environment of cross-cultural peer collaboration.
