Abstract:

Virtual Hospital (VR-Hosp) is the first immersive virtual reality (IVR) learning system of its kind in Hong Kong deployed in the nursing education. Unlike traditional simulation learning activities that usually practice single patient management, it simulates a multi-bed and multi-tasks settings that closely resembles a hectic hospital environment. This learning system make full use of the superior sense of IVR to deliver time-stressed situation, where unexpected circumstances arise. This disrupts the ongoing health care activities. Some situations will distract the nurses’ attention, which may cause errors. The survey and qualitative results collected after the VR activities had yielded high satisfaction. Realism was deemed imperative for the students to make sense of the chaos of clinical practice.
