President’s Message
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) will celebrate its 85th anniversary in 2022. To mark this important milestone, we will hold a year-long series of celebratory activities starting from November 2021, where we will highlight our proud history and heritage, focus on the homecoming of our alumni and friends, and advance our mission to be a leading university with world-class education and impactful research.
Thanks to the strenuous efforts of our scholars, researchers and members of the university community, PolyU is now ranked among the top 100 universities in the world by both the QS and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Moreover, our research accomplishments have been acknowledged in the University Grants Committee’s Research Assessment Exercise 2020, where 70% of our research work was rated as world-leading or internationally excellent. In recent years, we have also been honoured to participate in China’s historic space missions, including the Nation’s first lunar sample return mission Chang’e 5 and the first Mars exploration mission Tianwen-1.
Riding on PolyU’s 85 years of history and achievements, we will continue to make impactful contributions for the benefit of Hong Kong, the Nation and the world. We are committed to nurturing successful future professionals and leaders with a deep affection for their family and nation, a global perspective and a strong sense of social responsibility. We have furthermore established the PolyU Academy for Interdisciplinary Research (PAIR) to conduct mission-driven interdisciplinary research to solve key societal issues. There are currently ten research institutes and five research centres under PAIR, focused on cutting-edge areas including artificial intelligence, carbon neutrality, deep space exploration, smart cities, smart energy and more. Backed by our research strengths and expertise, PolyU will play an important part in the development of Hong Kong into an international innovation and technology hub in the Greater Bay Area.
I must also express my deep gratitude for the unfailing support rendered by the Nation, the Hong Kong Government, our generous donors, distinguished alumni and many more stakeholders in different sectors. Their continued support is crucial for PolyU to continue its pursuit of excellence in education, research and knowledge transfer, making greater contributions to the development of Hong Kong, our Nation and our world.
On this joyous occasion, let me call upon all our partners and friends in the community, as well as PolyU staff, students and alumni, to join us in the celebrations ahead.
President
