MicroFish

Water contamination by microbial pathogens is an increasingly pressing concern for the aquaculture industry worth billions of dollars annually, both environmentally and economically. These also have implications for food security as they can impact human health by potentially introducing contaminated fish into the food supply chain. We developed a patent-pending microfluidic biochip with fish culture & sensors, to detect microbial contamination & pollutants in water and fish. Our newly established PolyU startup, MicroFish, aims to monitor water quality on-site for aquaculture industry & public agencies, to minimize potential for fish outbreaks and ensure sustainable aquaculture production.
