In recognition of his expertise, Professor Chai has been an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Distinguished Lecturer since 2016 and has held leadership roles within the organisation, including Vice Chair of IEEE EDS Region 10 and Chair of the IEEE ED/SSC Hong Kong Chapter. He has earned numerous prestigious accolades in acknowledgement of his exceptional research, including: Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC) Early Career Award (2014); Semiconductor Science and Technology Early Career Research Award (2017); PolyU FAST Faculty Award in Research and Scholar Activities (2018/2019); Young Scientist Award of ICON-2DMAT (2019); PolyU President's Award in Research and Scholar Activities (2019/2020); NR45 Young Innovators Award (2021); Young Scientist of World Laureate Forum (2021); Finalist for the Falling Walls Science Breakthroughs of the Year 2022 in Engineering and Technology.
Professor Chai’s pioneering research was also recognised as one of the Top Ten Hong Kong Innovative Technology News in 2022, showcasing his strong commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and innovation. Last but not least, Professor Chai is a member of The Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences and is Vice President of the Physical Society of Hong Kong in acknowledgement of his outstanding knowledge and contributions.
