Programme: Please click HERE for the programme.   Keynote speakers Hendrik Bessembinder Hank Bessembinder is a professor and the Francis J. and Mary B. Labriola Endowed Chair in Competitive Business. He returned to Arizona State University in 2015, after holding positions at Emory University and the University of Utah. Prior to his first assignment with ASU, Professor Bessembinder taught at the University of Rochester. His research focuses on market design and trading, including stock, foreign exchange, fixed income, futures, and energy markets, as well as on measuring long term investment performance. He has published numerous articles in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and Review of Financial Studies, among others. A frequent speaker at conferences, financial markets, and universities around the world, Professor Bessembinder has more than 25 years of successful consulting experience, providing strategic advice and analysis for major firms, financial markets, and government agencies. Neil Pearson Neil Pearson is the Harry A. Brandt Distinguished Professor of Financial Markets and Options at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Research Fellow of the Canadian Derivatives Institute. Accounting Research Conference 2024

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) Accounting Research Conference 2024 will take place at Hotel ICON on 6 December 2024 (Friday). This prestigious event, hosted by the PolyU School of Accounting and Finance, aims to provide a platform for aspiring academics from around the globe to present their unpublished research papers. CAFR Special Issue Conference 2024

Research on contemporary issues in accounting and finance plays a vital role in developing new knowledge and informing practice. Through studying emerging themes in accounting and finance, this special issue endeavours to bridge the gap between theory and practice in these fields, as well as facilitating adaptations to technological innovations. To contribute to growing discussions on how contemporary issues are affecting research, this special issue offers a forum for evidence-based discussions on the following topics: Latest trends and changes in accounting standards Corporate social responsibility and sustainability Contemporary challenges and risks in auditing practices New technology solutions in accounting and finance Artificial intelligence and future of accountancy Any other contemporary issues in accounting and finance The China Accounting and Finance Review (CAFR) 2024 Special Issue Conference, jointly organised by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Chongqing University, will be held at Chongqing University in Chongqing on 30 November 2024. International presenters and discussants may be entitled to two nights’ accommodation and a maximum of USD 1,500 for reimbursing airfare and travel expenses. We particularly encourage the submission of theoretical and empirical papers that have clear implications for contemporary issues in accounting and finance. We also welcome papers on other topics in accounting and finance. AF Students Shine at Corporate Governance Paper Competition and Presentation Awards 2024

Two students from the BBA in Accountancy and Financial Services programmes achieved remarkable success at The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute Corporate Governance Paper Competition and Presentation Awards 2024.  Organized by The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute, this annual event aims to promote the significance of good governance among local undergraduates. The theme for this year, "Overcoming Governance Obstacles in NGO Administration," provided a challenging context for research, writing and presentation. During the competition, our students collaborated with peers from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and demonstrated exceptional abilities and commitment to excellence. They eventually secured the Best Presentation Award in the Paper Presentation Competition and Second Runner-up in the Paper Writing Competition. These achievements not only showcase their talents but also underscore the academic excellence and commitment to success that our School fosters. Research Centre for Digital Economy Inauguration Ceremony

An inauguration ceremony of the Research Centre for Digital Economy of the School of Accounting and Finance (AF) was held at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) on 3 September 2024 (Tuesday). The research centre focuses on key trends in digital economy and covers a wide range of important research areas, including blockchain, artificial intelligence and big data. Prof. Christopher Chao, Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU, delivered the opening remarks at the inauguration ceremony. Representatives of the donor, An He (Hainan) Digital Industry Holding Co. Ltd, as well as team members of the research centre also attended the ceremony. The establishment of the Research Centre for Digital Economy serves as an example of AF’s close collaboration with the industry, as well as our commitment to align with PolyU’s strategic plan and further promote scholarly excellence. 華潤集團設立「華潤香港公司治理專業專項獎學金」培育理大企業治理人才

理大早前與華潤慈善基金有限公司(華潤慈善基金)簽署獎學金捐贈協議, 設立「華潤香港公司治理專業專項獎學金」,並於2023/24至2027/28學年共五個學年設立多個獎學金,以表彰於理大「公司管治碩士」課程的優異學生,鼓勵他們發展企業治理和公司秘書的事業。 華潤集團於8月22日舉行獎學金捐贈簽署儀式,由華潤集團董事長王祥明先生、中聯絡辦教育科技部一級巡視員劉懋洲先生、香港特別行政區政府民政及青年事務局常任秘書長林雪麗女士、財經事務及庫務局副局長陳浩濂先生,以及華潤集團副總經理藍屹先生共同主禮。 在主禮嘉賓見證下,理大行政及拓展副校長盧麗華博士與華潤慈善基金董事宋貴斌先生簽署捐贈協議,其他出席的理大代表包括協理副校長(大學發展)及拓展事務總監羅璇博士、工商管理學院院長鄭大昭教授、會計及金融學院主任蘇黎新敎授,以及公司管治碩士課程總監利家樂博士。 是項獎學金計劃由華潤集團牽頭 ,並由華潤現代服務公司、華潤慈善基金及香港公司治理公會共同發起 ,惠及理大和本地另外三間大學的公司治理碩士課程的學生。 PolyU recently signed a donation agreement with China Resources Charitable Fund Limited (CRCF) to establish the “China Resources Corporate Governance Scholarship”, which will offer scholarships in each of the five academic years from 2023/24 to 2027/28. The scholarships recognise outstanding postgraduate students who have excelled in the PolyU Master of Corporate Governance and encourage them to pursue a career in corporate governance and company secretarial roles. The signing ceremony was held on 22 August and officiated by Mr Wang Xiangming, Chairman of China Resources Group; Mr Liu Maozhou, First-Level Inspector of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR; Ms Shirley Lam Shuet-lai, Permanent Secretary for Home and Youth Affairs of the HKSAR Government; Mr Joseph Chan Ho-lim, Under Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the HKSAR Government; and Mr Lan Yi, Vice General Manager of the China Resources Group . Dr Miranda Lou, the Executive Vice President of PolyU, and Mr Song Guibin, the Director of CRCF, signed the donation agreement, with the officiating guests witnessing the event. Other PolyU representatives at the ceremony included Dr Laura Lo, Associate Vice President (Institutional Advancement) and Director of Institutional Advancement; Ir Prof. T.C. Edwin Cheng, Dean of the Faculty of Business; Prof. Nancy Su, Head of the School of Accounting and Finance; and Dr Bruce Li, Programme Director of the Master of Corporate Governance programme. The Scholarship arrangement was driven by China Resources Group and jointly initiated by China Resources Corporate Service Limited, CRCF and The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute. Its aim is to benefit postgraduate students in corporate governance at PolyU and three other local universities.
