Mr Peter LAM Wing-chap
Principal Consultant, Huawei Technologies Company Limited
Mr Lam, currently Principal Consultant at Huawei, launched his career in 1973 at the Hong Kong Telephone Company. Throughout his 48 years of service with the company, he had held various senior positions in engineering, sales, marketing and wholesale business. Before his retirement in May 2021, he was the Managing Director, Engineering at HKT Limited, responsible for planning and operation of the fixed and wireless networks, supporting a wide range of quadruple-play telecommunication services including voice, data, broadband, interactive multimedia, mobile and ICT projects in Hong Kong and overseas.
Mr Lam graduated with a Higher Diploma in Electronic Engineering in 1982 from the Hong Kong Polytechnic, earned a Diploma in Management for Executive Development in 1991 from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and took the Cable & Wireless International Executive Development Program at INSEAD, France in 1997.
Enthusiastic about serving his professional community, Mr Lam was the Chairman of the Joint Utilities Policy Group (JUPG) and Vice Chairman of Communications Association of Hong Kong. He also supported his alma mater by being a Departmental Advisory Committee Member of PolyU’s Department of Computing, and Chairman of the Departmental Advisory Committee of the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering.
Dr Steve MUNG Wai-yin
Test and Operations Director, Sana Semiconductors Limited
After receiving a higher diploma from PolyU’s Department of Electronic and Information Engineering (EIE), Dr Mung obtained a BSc in Applied Physics at the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) with First Class Honours and went on to earn his PhD degree from CityU in 2012. With over 15 years of experience in designing and manufacturing electronic products, Dr Mung is currently the Test and Operations Director of Sana Semiconductors Limited.
Dr Mung’s research endeavours are well recognised, raising around HKD 20 million of R&D funding since 2019. His China/US patents, journal and conference papers add up to over 100, focusing mainly on wireless, speech and audio technologies. He is simultaneously a Reviewer for several IEEE journals and a member of several organisations, namely the committee of IEEE Consumer Technology Society (CTSoc), the Audio/Video Systems and Signal Processing Technical Committee (AVS TC), as well as the Instrument Science and Technology Group Committee of Institute of Physics (IOP). He also serves as a Member on the reviewing board of the MTT-Sat Challenge.
Keen to pass on knowledge to the next generations, Dr Mung is an Adjunct Associate Professor of EIE, the Co-founder and Company Representative of the PolyU-Innovation Technology (HK) Audio and Speech Signal Processing Joint Laboratory.
Dr YIU Hing-leung
Head of Re-industrialisation Division, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation
Dr Yiu, Head of Re-industrialisation at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), spearheads the key infrastructures and initiatives to drive re-industrialisation, rebranding “Made in Hong Kong” as an internationally recognised seal of quality and a source of local pride. By providing state-of-the-art and purpose-designed facilities, Dr Yiu fosters advanced industries and smart production in various industrial parks.
Prior to his appointment at HKSTP, Dr Yiu had assumed senior executive duties in both start-ups and multinational corporations. Spending 15 years at Motorola Semiconductor, he soared to the position of General Manager Asia, Networking and Computing Group before resignation. A proud owner of eight patents and one of the masterminds behind the legendary DragonBall microprocessor, Dr Yiu not only contributed to the ubiquity of smartphones and mobile computing today, but also proved himself a visionary and an innovator.
Graduating from PolyU with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Electronic Engineering, as well as a Doctor of Business Administration, Dr Yiu continued to pursue his Executive MBA, Master of Science in Finance, and Juris Doctor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is currently a Fellow of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and an Executive Committee Member of Hong Kong Automation Technology Council and Hong Kong Electronics Industry Council of the FHKI.
Dr CHU Kai-fung
Founder and CEO, LegStep Technology Company Limited; Research Fellow, Cranfield University
After earning his BEng (First Class Honours) and MSc in Electronic and Information Engineering from PolyU in 2013 and 2016 respectively, Dr Chu obtained his PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from The University of Hong Kong in 2020.
Being a Research Fellow at the School of Aerospace of Cranfield University, he has published over ten papers in top-tier journals and conferences and they have been cited over 130 times. His academic pursuits have won him several awards and scholarships, including champion in IEEE (HK) Computational Intelligence Chapter Graduate Student Paper Competition, second runner-up in HKUEAA Enginnovate, EIE Scholarships for Postgraduate Scheme in Engineering, EIE Alumni Scholarship, Chiap Hua Cheng’s Foundation Scholarship, Dean’s Honours List, and several Best GPA Awards.
As a practising senior research engineer and project engineer, Dr Chu co-founded a tech start-up with funding from HKSTP Ideation and PolyU Micro Fund. His research interests include artificial intelligence, intelligent transportation systems, autonomous vehicles and adversarial machine learning.
Mr Dominic TSE Siu-kei
Assistant Vice President, Infrastructure and Platform Services, United Overseas Bank
Mr Tse earned his bachelor’s degree in Electronic and Information Engineering and master’s degree in Technology Management from PolyU in 2010 and 2016 respectively. Well-accomplished in information technology, he has worked in various well-known traditional and virtual banks in Hong Kong, currently holding the position of Assistant Vice President in Hong Kong Technology and Operation at United Overseas Bank.
Mr Tse deeply cares for his alma mater and Hong Kong Community College, which is founded under the auspices of PolyU. After serving as Director of the Federation of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Alumni Associations (FHKPUAA) for over ten years, he was elected the first Vice President of FHKPUAA in 2021. He is also the Chairman of PolyU’s Alumni Association of Electronic and Information Engineering (AAEIE), and Honourable Advisor of the Hong Kong Community College Alumni Association (HKCCAA).
Dr WAN Shibiao
Bioinformatics Research Scientist, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, USA
Dr Wan is currently a Bioinformatics Research Scientist at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the top paediatric cancer hospitals in the U.S. Dr Wan obtained his PhD degree from PolyU in 2014. Before joining St. Jude, he received his postdoctoral training from the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University from 2016 to 2019.
With more than ten years of experience in machine learning, bioinformatics and computational biology, Dr Wan has published more than 40 articles in prestigious journals like Genome Research, Nature Communications, Science Advances, Circulation Research, Briefings in Bioinformatics, and Bioinformatics. He is an Academic Editor for BioMed Research International and a Guest Associate Editor for a series of high-impact journals including Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, Biology, and Frontiers in Genetics. Dr Wan is also a TPC member for more than 20 machine learning-related international conferences including IEEE ICTAI, IEEE IAICT, IEEE IoTaIS, and IEEE SOFTT.
Besides serving as a reviewer for around 50 prestigious journals including IEEE TNNLS, Genomic Medicine and Briefings in Bioinformatics, he is a recipient of the Global Peer Review Awards (top 1%) in the “Cross-Field” and “Biology and Biochemistry” categories.
