A veteran hospital engineer and an expert in the specialised hospital ventilation system, Professor Yuen is a highly-regarded figure in the industry. During his 40 years of hospital engineering service, he had fought several battles against epidemics including both SARS and COVID-19. With his wit and expertise, Prof. Yuen overcame the challenges by devising isolation facilities in hospitals within a short period of time, thus keeping the spread of the virus in check.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to timely respond to the rapid rise of infections, he came up with inventions that swiftly turned general wards into Tier-2 isolation facilities, converted exhibition halls into large-scale community treatment facilities, and created the first high standard isolation ward in modular MiC format for immediate deployment in those facilities.
