A veteran hospital engineer and an expert in the specialised hospital ventilation system, Professor Yuen is a highly-regarded figure in the industry. During his 40 years of hospital engineering service, he had fought several battles against epidemics including both SARS and COVID-19. With his wit and expertise, Prof. Yuen overcame the challenges by devising isolation facilities in hospitals within a short period of time, thus keeping the spread of the virus in check.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to timely respond to the rapid rise of infections, he came up with inventions that swiftly turned general wards into Tier-2 isolation facilities, converted exhibition halls into large-scale community treatment facilities, and created the first high standard isolation ward in modular MiC format for immediate deployment in those facilities. For his remarkable contribution to the fight against COVID-19, he received the HKSAR Government Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service in 2019.
