On 5 November 2022, more than 40 alumni from a wide range of disciplines and graduation years came back to join our campus tour “A Quest in the Fire Chamber”. The event was jointly organised by the Alumni Affairs Office (AAO) and the Alumni Association of Building Services Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (AABSE), and supported by the Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering (BEEE) and the Federation of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University Alumni Associations (FHKPUAA).
Gathered at the Alumni Atrium, the participants were warmly welcomed by Ms Wanze Li, Interim Director of Alumni Affairs, and Dr Jackie Ng, President of AABSE. Before starting their tour, the group grasped the opportunity to visit the Wall of Pride, where there are valuable historical photos telling the rich heritage of their alma mater.
After going to some popular attractions on campus, our alumni were separated into two teams to visit the Fire Engineering Laboratory located at Block Z. The lab technicians and researchers first gave a brief presentation on their research projects, and then carried out two experiments – the simulation of tunnel fire detection and a test of material flammability. The impressive demonstrations drew many questions from the participants and initiated further discussions, making the tour even more fruitful.
As the celebration of PolyU’s 85th Anniversary is reaching a finale, the last “85A Alumni Tourcation” is around the corner. Don’t miss it!
