Biography

Dr Vincent CHENG earned his PhD in Sociology and Criminology from The University of Hong Kong. His current research interest lies in two fields: (1) The experience and well-being of marginalised populations, with a particular focus on older people suffering from substance use disorder, (2) The impact of health promotion advertisements to audiences. He is also interested in issues related to social marginalisation, crime, and punishment in both local and Mainland Chinese contexts.

Dr Cheng has published in international journals like Punishment and Society, International Journal of Qualitative Studies on Health and Well-being, International Journal of Offender Therapy and Comparative Criminology, and Drugs: Education, Prevention and Policy. His book, Hypocrisy: The Tales and Realities of Drug Detainees in China receives honorary mention in the 2020 ACS Distinguished Book Award of Asian Criminology Society.
