Biography
Prof. Edward Chan is the Chair Professor of Child and Family Welfare at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, an RGC Senior Research Fellow, and a Fulbright Scholar. He is dedicated to preventing family violence through impactful and socially relevant research. Prof. Chan is an internationally renowned scholar in family violence studies and the pioneering researcher in family poly-victimization. His expertise spans child and family poly-victimization, disadvantaged children facing poverty and disability, and internal migration in mainland China.
An outstanding scholar with intellectual rigor and passion for his research, Prof. Chan was conferred the title of "RGC Senior Research Fellow" by the Research Grants Council in 2022. He received the Senior Scholar Award from the RGC-Fulbright Hong Kong Research Scholar Program in 2013-14 and was recognized as an outstanding scholar by the RGC Humanities and Social Sciences Prestigious Fellowship Scheme in 2016.
Prof. Chan excels in his research, with academic outputs that stand out among peers. He has authored over 200 research publications in health and social sciences and has consistently secured large and competitive research grants from both local and international funding agencies.
Prof. Chan Highly Ranked Among Top 2% of Scientists in the World
Prof. Chan’s excellence in scholarship has been consistently recognized. Since 2019, Stanford University reports have ranked him among the top 2% of scientists worldwide. Within the social sciences, he is ranked in the top 1% of social scientists globally.
