DIREC Programme - Study Tour (Asia Pacific)

> The International Study Tour of the Doctor of International Real Estate and Construction (DIREC) Programme unfolded over seven days in June, spanning two remarkable destinations, Singapore and Beijing. This enriching journey was made possible by the unwavering support of academic, industry, and government stakeholders in both locations. We trust that this journey was captivating and intellectually enriching for the participating students. The itinerary immersed them in hands-on explorations within the realms of real estate, urban planning, construction technology, and mega-infrastructure in these bustling cities. A special acknowledgment is extended to the following entities whose invaluable contributions enhanced our visit: NUS Institute of Real Estate and Urban Studies, NTU Singapore Centre for 3D Printing, Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore, Building & Research Institute of Housing & Development Board of Singapore, ION Orchard, Department of Construction Management of Tsinghua University, Beijing Urban Construction Group Co., Ltd., and Capital Airport Holding Company. Also, special thanks to BRE colleagues including Dr Sun Yi, Dr Michael Sing and Dr Fan Ying.

Close Collaboration on Intelligent Construction Programme with Zhejiang University

> The joint programme, MSc in International Real Estate (IRE), has achieved significant milestones for two decades since its inception in Zhejiang. This success has fostered a close collaboration between the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE) of PolyU and the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Zhejiang University. Building on the success of the IRE programme, the representatives from both institutions convened at the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture of Zhejiang University on 29 May 2024 to discuss future collaboration. The delegation included Prof. Michael YAM, Head of BRE, Dr. SUN Yi, Associate Head (Partnership) of BRE, Prof. DUAN Yuan Feng, Associate Dean of the College of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Prof. WANG Hai Long, Director of the Research Centre of Intelligent Construction and Engineering Management, as well as Ms ZHU Jiping and Ms YUAN Jing from the joint centre. Recognizing the important role of intelligent construction in national development, the discussions at the meeting were highly productive. Both sides explored the possibilities of launching a new joint master's programme in intelligent construction, along with various collaborative research projects. The agenda also included the possibility of establishing a joint laboratory for intelligent construction in Zhejiang, further solidifying the partnership and commitment to innovation in the field.

BRE Distinguished Lecture by Sr Dr CHEUNG Tin Cheung, SBS, Recipient of the Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award 2023

> BRE Distinguished Lecture aims to enhance the network between BRE and the industry, providing an excellent platform for industrial professionals, our students, staff, and alumni to partake in advanced learning. We were honored to host Sr Dr CHEUNG Tin Cheung, SBS, who delivered a distinguished talk on 'Green Building Drive Heading Towards Carbon Neutrality' in May 2024. His comprehensive sharing marked an important milestone for this signature event, ‘BRE Distinguished Lecture’ and was concluded with enthusiastic applause. We trust that the participating students, alumni, colleagues, and industry professionals found the Lecture both informative and enjoyable.

Prof. Geoffrey SHEN Recognised amongst the World’s Most Highly Cited Researchers 2023 by Clarivate

The ‘2023 Highly Cited Researchers Awards Ceremony’, jointly officiated by Prof. Christopher CHAO, PolyU Vice President (Research and Innovation), and Mr Osher GILINSKY, Clarivate™ Vice President for Asia Pacific (Academia and Government), was held on 15 March 2024, honoring 15 PolyU academics. These academics have been named Highly Cited Researchers by Clarivate earlier for their substantial impacts and noteworthy contributions in their respective research fields. Among the esteemed scholars, Prof. Geoffrey SHEN, Associate Vice President (Global Partnerships) and Chair Professor of Construction Management, Department of Building and Real Estate, was honoured to receive the Highly Cited Researcher Certificate from Mr Gilinsky. This accomplishment certainly serves as a significant affirmation of Prof. Shen's unwavering commitment to research excellence. In 2023, a total of 6,849 researchers from 67 countries and regions, spanning diverse research field, were on the list of selected highly-cited researchers. These scholars have earned recognition for their influential contributions, demonstrated by their production of numerous papers that rank in the top 1% by citations for their respective fields and publication year, according to the Web of Science™, over the past 11 years. The inclusion of PolyU's academics in this prestigious group underscores the university's commitment to advancing research excellence and making positive societal changes through various channels. Connie was honoured with the award from Prof. TENG Jin Guang, the President of PolyU, at the Presentation Ceremony on 26 March 2024. This special occasion was awash with resounding applause and heartfelt congratulations. We couldn’t be prouder of Connie. The Outstanding Student Awards of PolyU aims to recognize full-time final-year students for their excellence in both academic and non-academic endeavors.
