Hearty congratulations are due to the Department on its very successful progress.

Marking early University status ambitions, the Department's honours degree course in Civil Engineering first admitted students in 1984. In 1988, the course and its first cohort of graduates were fully accredited by the Institutions of Civil Engineers and Structural Engineers.

The rapid research growth, already under way, has been sustained ever since across a range of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering fields, culminating in the very high ratings currently achieved in International Research performance assessments.

The Department can be very proud of itself. Long may it continue.
