Apology for the disturbance caused by a promotion poster

Dear Students, Alumni and Colleagues, With the intent of illustrating the importance of structural and fire engineering in preventing serious fires, our Department used a photo of a burning building on a poster for promoting our degree programmes.  The poster has drawn extensive attention and commentary. In view of this, we have addressed the public’s concern and have stopped using the relevant photo immediately.  We have already posted our statement with a sincere apology on social media.  We have also met with the representatives of our Departmental Student Society this afternoon to explain the situation. The Department will take a stringent approach to reviewing our promotional materials in future.  We are deeply sorry and hope fellow students and the public will accept our apology for the disturbance caused.
