I am truly honoured and humbled to be receiving this outstanding alumni award. The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has played such an important role in shaping my life and career. I am grateful to be recognised, and it means so much to me.
When I reflect back on my time as a student, I am filled with fond memories. My most memorable experience in CEE was the survey camp that took place by the side of a reservoir in Dongguan before Christmas in 1986. It provided us with hands-on training where civil engineering students learnt practical surveying techniques in the field, e.g. setting up survey equipment, taking measurements, and mapping terrain. I remembered I was responsible for closing the traverse by drawing a series of connected survey lines taken in the field after every hectic day. This survey camp allowed us to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting.
My deepest gratitude goes to the professors for their tireless dedication to educating and supporting students like myself. Their passion and commitment have made the Civil Engineering programme of PolyU what it is today - No. 14 in the world and No. 1 in Hong Kong according to the 2024 QS World University Rankings. The connections and community I have built continue to be a source of strength and inspiration for me. I am proud to be part of this alumni network. I will continue to cherish my connection to PolyU and do my part to make a difference in the world.
