Summary
Mr Ou Da-wei is a Hong Kong artist devoted to the traditional literati arts: poetry, calligraphy, painting and seal-carving. Born in Guangzhou in 1947. Mr Ou studied calligraphy and seal carving under Mr Wu Zi-fu and later learnt landscape painting through self-study. He has taught calligraphy and seal carving in various tertiary institutions. Since 1981, his works have been selected to feature in the Hong Kong Art Biennial Exhibition. He was awarded the Urban Council Fine Arts Award (Calligraphy) by the Hong Kong Museum of Art in 1989 and another Urban Council Fine Arts Award (Seal-carving) in 1998. His works have been collected by the Hong Kong Museum of Art.
The exhibition, Nature in Ink and Brush: The Art of Ou Dawei, showcases recent works by Mr Ou, including about 40 works of calligraphy in various scripts, landscape paintings and seals that illuminate the artist’s unswerving pursuit and inheritance of traditional culture. Participants will have a rare chance to meet Mr Ou personally to understand his artistic pursuit.
Mr Tang Hoi-chiu, former Chief Curator of the Hong Kong Museum of Art and a member of PolyU’s Culture Promotion Committee, has curated a great number of exhibitions of both Chinese and Western art. He has also served as adjudicator and nominator for local and international art competitions.
