Loo Hiu Tung (Year 3 student in Biomedical Engineering)

Loo Hiu Tung, a Year 3 student in Biomedical Engineering has been recognized as one of the three outstanding students at PolyU who have received the Innovation and Technology Scholarship 2021 jointly sponsored by the Innovation and Technology Commission and HSBC, and organized by The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG). She will receive a scholarship of up to HK$150,000. Loo Hiu Tung is very grateful to receive this prestigious scholarship, which has encouraged her pursuit of prosthetics and orthotics.

"Life is a one-time adventure, be brave to yourself and embrace the challenges so you won't regret at any moments!" Loo Hiu Tung shared her experience during the Innovation and Technology Competition organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups.

The competition aims to offer outstanding undergraduates opportunities to widen their international exposure by participating in a series of initiatives, such as Overseas/Local attachment programmes, Mentorship programmes, etc.

Standing out of the crowd is important if one wants to be chosen among other excellent competitors from different universities in Hong Kong. Being well-prepared, confident, and innovative highlighted her among other applicants. She believes that neither a single skill nor a certain achievement excelled others. In Loo Hiu Tung's opinion, the key to winning was an accumulation of all the previous related experience, which could show the panel her passion. This event, in turn, encouraged her to realize her goals in the future.

An important insight gained by Loo Hiu Tung during the competition is to prepare yourself for unknown chances. Therefore, when the opportunity comes, you can take it. Loo Hiu Tung encouraged future applicants to prepare the "Wish list" of exchange institutes as there is no limitation in the number of exchange destinations as long as you can handle them.
