EAC Team Wins 2022 UGC Teaching Award and Quacquarelli Symonds Reimagine Education Award

The English Across the Curriculum Team (“the Team”) comprising Dr Julia Chen (Director of the Educational Development Centre and Associate Professor (courtesy) of the Department of English and Communication), Dr Grace Lim (Teaching Fellow of the English Language Centre), Christy Chan (CityU), Vicky Man (BU), and Dr Elza Tsang (HKUST), is honoured to be the recipient of the 2022 UGC Teaching Award (Collaborative Team category). The Selection Panel of local and international educators praises the Team for having ‘generated multiple innovative and effective strategies for developing students’ academic literacy, ... successfully built a culture conducive to student-centred and interdisciplinary collaboration’. The Panel lauds the Team for ‘exemplifying teaching excellence by addressing complex educational challenges with a clear vision and determination to improve language learning’, and for their ‘proactive transformation of an admirable vision into a purposeful mission’. The Team is grateful to discipline academics and ELC colleagues for their collaboration on EAC, especially Dr Eric Ho and Mary Cheng as the major coordinators. The Team’s tailored learning resources and their mobile app Capstone Ninja have supported over 120 discipline teachers and their students in 30+ departments in five universities. Their work and impact have been disseminated through their three international EAC conferences, invited talks, and publications.
The Team also recently received the international QS Reimagine Education Award in the category of Breakthrough Technology Innovation in Education, Silver Prize, with their mobile app ‘Capstone Ninja’. Congratulations!
