Step 1 - Identify your research interests
Please explore our research areas to identify your research interests. Prospective students are welcome to approach and discuss your research interests with our researchers to identify a potential supervisor.
Step 2 - Check the admission requirements
There are different general entrance requirements and English language requirements for the degrees of MPhil and PhD. Please click here for details.
Step 3 - Prepare supporting documents
Applicants should prepare supporting documents specified by departments and upload them to the application system eAdmission:
- CV;
- research proposal;
- cover letter to supervisor;
- details of the academic referees; and/or
- academic certificates and transcripts
Step 4 - Submit your application online
Applicants should submit the online application and settle the application fee via
eAdmission.
To apply for the
Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) via PolyU, you must quote the reference number allocated by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong. Before submitting an online application to PolyU, you should file an initial application to the RGC via the
HKPFS Electronic System to obtain a reference number before noon on 1 December (HKT 12:00 noon GMT +8 hours).
Step 5 - Settle the application fees
The application fee for admission to research postgraduate programmes is HK$300. Applicants should settle the application fee upon submission of your online application. Otherwise, your application will not be further processed. Please click

Step 6 - Check the application results
You may log in to
eAdmission to check your application status or directly approach the
academic department for the application progress.
