In my teaching journey, I endeavor to transform students from passive recipients into active learners. I believe the key drivers in this transformation are participation, facilitation, communication and appreciation.

My teaching philosophy
Participation
I firmly believe that students learn best when they are actively involved in the learning process. Traditional lectures usually lack sufficient student-teacher interaction. With the advancement of educational technology, many user-friendly tools become available to better involve and engage students. I prefer the tools such as Ahaslide, Padlet, and Miroboard to foster active involvement. These tools empower students to contribute ideas, work collaboratively, and enable me to monitor their progress and adjust my teaching approach in real-time to ensure learning outcomes are achieved.
Facilitation
I aim to become a good facilitator of students during their learning process, giving them autonomy to explore while providing timely guidance. I have spent a lot of effort in creating such platforms for students to explore. As a lecturer teaching food processing-related subjects, I hope to provide students opportunities to visualize food industries and learn in a self-directed manner. I utilized my Teaching Development Grant and FITE Collaborative Grant to develop a food processing metaverse featuring immersive VR and generative AI. Students can then immerse themselves in the virtual factory using their own avatars, communicate with others in the scene, and apply lecture content to complete different tasks independently. For me, there is nothing more rewarding than seeing their smiling faces during the learning process.
Communication
Open communication is crucial in learning. I prioritize responsiveness to students' feedback and inquiries, whether through email or face-to-face meetings. I believe that by listening to their concerns and suggestions, I can continuously refine my teaching methods and better cater to their learning needs. I always encourage students to talk with me if they encounter challenges in their academic journey as I understand the significant impact teacher support can have on their progress.
Appreciation
Appreciation forms the foundation of collaboration. I have observed that students possess their different shining points, some excel in technology, others are excellent in idea generation, and some in hands-on work. I enjoy working with students to explore new technique, create new teaching materials and develop new food products. I enjoy listening to the ideas of students, encouraging them, and motivating them to unlock their full potential.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is when former students return after graduation to share their experiences with me. It serves as a testament to the lasting impact that a positive and supportive learning environment can have on students. I derive immense satisfaction from witnessing their academic and personal growth and success. It serves as a reminder of why I chose to become a lecturer in the first place: to inspire, guide, and make a positive impact on students' lives. I wish all my lovely students a bright future.

積極參與學習是達到最佳學習效果的捷徑。傳統的教學方式往往缺乏師生互動。隨著教育科技的進步,許多操作簡便的互動工具應運而生,可以用來提升學生的課堂參與度。我非常喜歡使用 Ahaslide、Padlet 和 Miroboard 等工具。這些工具賦予學生分享創意想法、強化團隊協作的舞台,亦讓我能夠監察他們的學習進度,並即時調整教學方法,確保實現學習目的。
鼓勵
在學生學習過程中,我努力扮演好引導者的身份,給予他們自主探索的機會,並及時提供指導。作為一名教授食品加工相關科目的講師,我希望學生可以在可視化的食品業場景中自主學習。在教學發展補助金(TDG)和科教創新基金(FITE)合作補助金的支持下,我利用沉浸式虛擬實境和生成式人工智能開發了一個食品加工元宇宙平台,學生可以使用自己的虛擬化身體驗工廠環境,與場景中的他人進行互動交流,並應用所學知識獨立完成不同任務。對我來說,沒有什麼比在學習過程中看到他們的歡笑更有成功感。
溝通
開放式溝通對於學生至關重要。無論是透過電子郵件還是面對面交流,我都會及時對學生的回饋和詢問作出回應。我相信聆聽他們的困惑和建議,可以幫助我不斷改善教學方法,更全面地滿足他們的學習需求。如果學生在學習過程中遇到困難,我會鼓勵他們和我溝通,因為我深知教師的支持對學生的進步影響深遠。
欣賞
欣賞是合作的基礎。據我觀察,學生的長處各有不同:有的擅長技術、有的善於構思、有的擅於動手操作。我喜歡與學生一起探索新科技、製作新材料、開發新食品;亦樂於聆聽學生的想法、鼓勵他們,以激發他們的潛能。
在我的教學工作中,最值得驕傲和滿足的是與畢業生維持長久的關係,聆聽他們分享工作後的知識應用和經驗所得。這證明了正面和互相支持的學習環境對學生產生的影響深遠。他們在學業和個人方面都發展不俗、相當成功,讓我倍感欣慰。同時,我亦經常提醒自己當初選擇成為講師的原因:激勵、引導學生,並為他們的人生帶來正面影響。在此衷心祝願我的所有學生,前程似錦。
