At PolyU, we believe that students should not be stripped of their opportunities to pursue whole-person development because of financial hardship. The PolyU WeCare Fund was established to alleviate the financial pressure on students who are not qualified for government grants and are not getting enough financial support from their families.
In many educational institutions in Hong Kong, financial assistance is provided to students based on their household income and the amount of means-tested grant/ loan they are receiving from the government. Students who fail to meet the requirements and get sufficient financial help may need to work excessive hours of part-time work which could have adverse impact on their academic performance and mental wellbeing. By establishing the PolyU WeCare Fund, we aim at providing an option and extra assistance to help students navigate the challenges before it is too late.
The Fund aims to provide additional resources to eligible students so that they can focus more on their studies as well as participating in various purpose-driven initiatives and holistic development activities, including student-initiated caring projects, exchange learning, student leadership programmes and more. Through the establishment of the Fund, we are promoting a “caring” culture among PolyU students. It is our long-term goal to develop a “Caring Loop” where students feel supported and are much more likely to thrive and give back when they are able to.
Students in need of financial assistance can submit an application to the Student Affairs Office (SAO). A fund management committee chaired by the Dean of Students with members from SAO will oversee the management of the Fund and to review and approve applications.
Please join hands with PolyU to promote a caring culture among our students through a one-time lump sum contribution or a monthly donation scheme.
