Establishment
The PolyU Institutional Review Board (IRB)*, set up under the Research Committee (RC), is the authority for granting ethical clearance for research/teaching projects or investigations involving human subjects (non-clinical) and human subjects (clinical studies). Broadly speaking, projects involving human subjects may be internally or externally funded; they include all projects of research nature and may be conducted by staff and/or students.

IRB Membership
*At its 272nd meeting on 19 May 2020, the RC decided that with effect from 1 September 2020, the Clinical Research Ethics Sub-committee (CRESC), which was established in January 2018 for granting ethical clearance for research/teaching projects or investigations involving clinical studies, be merged into the IRB. IRB will then be responsible for reviewing and granting ethics approval to both proposals of human subjects (non-clinical) and proposals of human subjects (clinical).
