PolyVentures: Startup Postdoc Builds Miniature "Mushroom Spaceship" to Protect Fragile Probiotics

PolyU nurtured startup, iMeddy, helps tackle social problems

Funded in the amount of HK$400,000 by The Y.Elites Association and the Hong Kong Youth Development Alliance, PolyU-nurtured start-up iMeddy utilises its pioneering online healthcare platform to provide free medical video consultations and related medical supplies for patients confirmed or preliminarily confirmed as COVID-19 cases during the fifth wave of the pandemic, greatly alleviating the recent strain on our healthcare system.

Over 2,000 patients have been served in the project’s first phase. A total of 1,000 places have been allocated to families eligible for the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance, households living in sub-divided units, and elderly people living in double or singleton households, with focus on low-income families in districts such as Sham Shui Po and Tuen Mun.

iMeddy was founded in 2021 by two PolyU alumni – Cheuk Ka Hou from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and Tsoi Kwok Chun from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. iMeddy's online medical platform has won the Silver Award in the National Competition of the “7th China International College Students’ "Internet+” Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition". This year, it was awarded HK$500,000 from PolyU Tech Launchpad Fund (TLF) in support of its research and commercialisation of its R&D outcomes.

iMeddy's mission is to build a healthcare ecosystem which is led by Hong Kong medical experts in the Greater Bay Area, using technology to improve human health. They are committed to using technology and the Internet to identify and optimise the various shortcomings of the healthcare industry. iMeddy hopes to create a one-stop "Internet +" eco-platform to help users locate the right doctors and medical resources, and to create a trustworthy medical platform for patients. In the meantime, iMeddy strives to realise Internet healthcare based on artificial intelligence and big data, and create efficient and intelligent patient management tools for doctors to enhance efficiency and overcome the limit of distance in medical consultations.
