Vision and Mission

Vision

To become a leading research centre for Chinese history and culture at home and abroad via collaboration with local and non-local institutions and organizations.

Mission

  • To make PolyU’s research strength in the China-related humanities disciplines more visible to the outside world and thus enhance PolyU’s profile as a centre of China-related humanities research;
  • To boost PolyU as a centre for humanities research related to modern China;
  • To enhance PolyU’s collaboration with other research centres and individual scholars in this field.

Our Centre concentrates more on modern and contemporary Chinese history, society, and culture, with primary attention to the history of relations between China and other parts of the world, thoughts, economy, science and technology, sports, environment, and art in modern and contemporary China, and China’s ethnic relations and frontier history.

The history of Hong Kong and its close relations with the Chinese mainland will also form an indispensable part of our research scope. This interdisciplinary research centre welcomes researchers from various humanities disciplines, such as arts, literature, history, and religious studies, and sponsors research projects crossing the disciplinary boundaries of humanities, social sciences, business, and science/technology.
