On September 10, 2024, a delegation from China Southern Power Grid visited both the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) and the Research Centre for Grid Modernisation (RCGM) at Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The visit aimed to explore avenues for collaboration in talent development and research.
Professor Chi-Yung Chung, Director of RCGM and Head of the EEE Department, welcomed the delegation, highlighting the department’s and the centre’s commitment to fostering innovative solutions through industry partnerships. Associate Directors of RCGM, Professors Siqi Bu and Qin Wang, provided an overview of key research projects and discussed potential collaborative programs, including student and faculty exchanges, as well as joint research initiatives.
The China Southern Power Grid delegation, led by Vice President Xiaochen Wu, expressed a strong interest in establishing deeper ties with both RCGM and the EEE Department. Their discussions centered on cooperative efforts in areas such as renewable energy integration, advanced power electronics and energy storage systems, and the modernization of the electrical grid.
The meeting also gave China Southern Power Grid representatives an opportunity to interact with students and researchers from both RCGM and EEE, further strengthening the foundation for future collaboration. This visit has set the stage for long-term partnerships aimed at addressing the pressing challenges in grid modernization and advancing energy sustainability.
