Prof. Yu Yixin
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering
Biography
Professor Yixin Yu, born on November 6, 1936, in Miyun County, Beijing, is an esteemed expert in power system analysis, planning, and simulation. He is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor and doctoral advisor at Tianjin University.
Professor Yu entered Tianjin University in 1954, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees. After completing his undergraduate studies in 1958, he remained at the university as a faculty member. From 1980 to 1982, he was a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1983, he joined the Chinese Communist Party and served as the vice department head at Tianjin University from 1983 to 1986. Between 1990 and 1991, he was a senior visiting scholar at the University of Washington, and from 1995 to 1997, he served as the chief guest professor for a specialized lecture series on power system control at Kyushu Institute of Technology in Japan. He was appointed vice chairman of the Academic Committee at Tianjin University in 1997, and in 2005, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
Professor Yu has devoted his career to the theoretical study of power system stability, closely integrating his research with practical engineering applications. He achieved pioneering and internationally advanced results in the methodology for security monitoring, defense, and control of large power systems, and was the first to apply these results to actual large power systems globally. In the field of urban power grid optimization, he proposed a series of effective theories, models, and algorithms, developing a comprehensive urban grid planning system with independent intellectual property rights. This system, widely used in China, has reached international standards, yielding significant economic and social benefits and advancing the scientific approach to this technical field.
Professor Yu has been at the forefront of smart grid research in China. As of July 2022, Professor Yu has published over 250 papers in academic journals and authored five significant books, including "Power System Security and Stability" and "The Theory and Methods of Power System Stability."
