PolyU welcomes Secretary for Health, Professor LO Chung-mau, on campus

PolyU warmly welcomed Professor LO Chung-mau, BBS, JP, Secretary for Health, and a delegation of government officials from the Health Bureau to PolyU on 22 July. The delegates were well received by PolyU Council Chairman Dr LAM Tai-fai, Deputy Council Chairman Dr Lawrence LI, President Prof. Jin-Guang TENG, and members of our Central Management Team.
The delegation visited the laboratories and clinical facilities of our Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, School of Optometry and School of Nursing, where the DeanProf. David SHUM, along with professors and researchers of our Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, introduced PolyU’s latest research innovations in healthcare. The visit concluded with an in-depth exchange with 12 students from various healthcare disciplines.

Prof. LO Chung-mau (right) learnt about the clinical facilities of the Optometry Clinic from Prof. Andrew LAM (left), Associate Head (Programmes and Clinical Training) of School of Optometry. The PolyU Optometry Clinic is known as the most well-equipped optometry clinic in Asia. Not only does it provide clinical training opportunities for senior undergraduates and support clinical vision and ophthalmology research, but it also offers guidance to the optometry industry in Hong Kong and China and provides eye care services to Hong Kong residents.

The delegation toured the Gerontological Nursing Laboratory and learnt about the latest research innovations from Prof. Justina LIU, Associate Head (Postgraduate Education) of School of Nursing. The Gerontological Nursing Laboratory provides a simulated environment in which students can experience age-related changes, assess the physical and psychosocial health of older people, and practise skills in gerontological nursing.

The 12 students came from various healthcare-related disciplines, including Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Optometry, Prosthetics & Orthotics, Speech Therapy, and Occupational Therapy.
