A new University-level research institute, the Research Institute for Climate-Resilient Infrastructure (RICRI). RICRI’s establishment is funded by a generous donation from the Otto Poon Charity Foundation.
Prof. Li Xiangdong, Dean of the Faculty of Construction and Environment and Chair Professor of Environmental Science and Technology, will serve as the Director of RICRI. Prof. Li is a highly distinguished scholar in environmental science and sustainable urban development. He is currently the Director of the Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development and Ko Jan Ming Professor in Sustainable Urban Development at PolyU.
RICRI aims to become a global leader in the research and development of resilient and sustainable solutions for urban areas and rural communities to mitigate the challenges posed by global climate change. RICRI will also provide an interdisciplinary research platform to build an effective and integrated scientific think tank for the broader community in Hong Kong, the Nation, and the world.
Additionally, RICRI will establish close research partnerships with researchers from Nanjing University, Tsinghua University, and Beijing Normal University in Mainland China. It will also collaborate with many other stakeholders, including government departments, industrial partners, and research institutions from around the world.
