Summary
Sustainability Lecture Series (SLS) is a conference cycle jointly organised by the Research and Innovation Office (RIO) of PolyU and the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macao since 2020. The series aims to bring together speakers from both the academic and business communities to share their perspectives, experiences, and best practices related to sustainability. Previous topics have included urban ecological water management and air pollution (Nov 2020), energy storage and green building (June 2021), and smart building and waste-to-energy (Dec 2021). This year, with the support of the School of Fashion and Textiles (SFT) of PolyU, the SLS focuses on sustainable fashion, reflecting the increasing demand for sustainability conscious practices within the fashion industry.
Join us at the latest edition of our Sustainability Lecture Series, brought to you by the Research and Innovation Office (RIO) and the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong & Macau, with support from the School of Fashion and Textiles (SFT). You will embark on a sustainable journey and explore into "Sustainable Fashion for a Sustainable Future: Challenges & Opportunities." Our lineup of distinguished speakers, with expertise in sustainability and fashion, hailing from both France and Hong Kong, features a diverse range of professionals, including business leaders, brand innovators, researchers, and scholars are invited to share their insights on the challenges and possibilities of sustainable fashion and how fashion can create positive impact to our planet.

Keynote Speaker
Ms Ronna CHAO
Chief Executive Officer, Novel Investment Partners Limited
Chief Executive Officer, Bai Xian Asia Institute
Ms. Ronna CHAO is CEO of Novel Investment Partners Limited, Chairperson of Novetex Textiles Limited, and a Director of Novelpark Investments Limited. Her responsibilities in these various capacities cover investment and portfolio management, property redevelopment, and textile manufacturing.
Ms Sofia CROCIANI founded AELIS in 2017, the first sustainable and ethical couture house. For Sofia fashion becomes the driving force to reach and inspire the change of the global system and the achievement of sustainable development an the women empowerment. Her early career in the fashion industry began in Paris, working for Dior and closely collaborating with Karl Lagerfeld.
Prof. Sihem DEKHILI (France)
Professor and Director of Research, ESSCA School of Management
Prof. Sihem DEKHILI is a Full Professor of Marketing at ESSCA School of Management - BETA CNRS (France) - and has extensive expertise in sustainable marketing field. Her main research interests focus on responsible consumer behavior and ethical fashion. She recently created and institute on “Ethical Fashion and Ecological Consumption”. Also, she created in 2017, with the support of the French Marketing Association, a research group on “Marketing and sustainable development”.
Mr Stafford LAU
Founding Chairman of Sustainable Fashion Apparel Association (SFAA Foundation), Managing Director of Prosperity Textile (H.K) Ltd & Stella Blu Textile Ltd
Stafford Lau is the Managing Director and one of the founders of Prosperity Textile (H.K) Ltd who has spent more than 25 years in textile industry. Throughout this career journey, Stafford is growing together with his company from a China domestic sub-contracted factory, to a small mill with 60sets of weaving looms and then to a mill with vertical setup in Shaoguan industrial area. And up today, Prosperity has production facility setup in Vietnam and China.
Prof. Chris LO's main research outputs are related to sustainability in operations management, social media and big data analytics, and disruptive technology adoptions to firm performance. He published in both mainstream business journals such as, Organization Sciences, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management etc., and fashion textiles-related journals, such as Coloration Technology, Textile Research Journal with the focus on the environment, human health, and sustainability.
Prof. Jeanne TAN
Centre Assistant Director of AiDLab, Professor of School of Fashion and Textiles, PolyU
Jeanne is a design practitioner that investigates creative innovation that interfaces design and technology. Her research focuses on intelligent textile design for fashion, interiors, rehabilitation and Design-Led STEM processes. Her work had been showcased at Milan Fashion Week A/W 2023,the Victoria & Albert Museum, and collected as part of the permanent collection of the National Museum of Silk, China.
Prof. WANG Xungai
Chair Professor of Fiber Science and Technology, School of Fashion and Textiles, PolyU
Prof. WANG Xungai held the position of an Alfred Deakin Professor, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Future Fibres), and Director of the ARC Research Hub for Future Fibres at Deakin University in Australia. He received the Fiber Society Award for Distinguished Achievement in Fiber Science and the H&M Foundation Global Change Award in 2005 and 2017 respectively. He is Editor-in-Chief of a premier journal in the textile field, the Journal of the Textile Institute (UK).
Prof. Christina WONG
Director of Research and Innovation, Professor of School of Fashion and Textiles, PolyU
Prof. Christina WONG's research interests are environmental management, supply chain integration, and reverse logistics. Her research papers have been published in various academic journals. She serves as an Editor of International Journal of Shipping and Transport Logistics, Associate Editor of Journal of Operations Management and Regional Editor of International Journal of Operations and Production Management.
