Strategic Focus Areas
The Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development (RISUD) established a new funding scheme, namely the Strategic Focus Area (SFA) Scheme in 2016 to provide funding support for the second stage of development of RISUD. The Scheme aims to support the emergence/growth of a significant number of focus areas of strategic importance which are well aligned with the mission of RISUD. The strategic focus areas (SFAs) are now the main vehicle through which RISUD delivers its research as well as its collaborative and scholarly activities.
Emerging Frontier Areas
The Emerging Frontier Area (EFA) Scheme is newly established in the year 2018/19 as the third stage of development of RISUD. The Scheme aims to support novel and multi-disciplinary research of high impact in the area of sustainable urban development with great potential for large external funding (e.g., RGC, NSFC etc.) in the coming 3 – 5 years. Priority is given to RISUD members at Assistant and Associate Professors levels to encourage and support young researchers with original and impactful ideas on multi-disciplinary research.
Joint Research Fund
In line with the mission of RISUD by creating innovative solutions to problems generated by high-density urban development, Joint Research Fund is introduced to encourage research collaboration between RISUD members and researchers from local and oversea universities. Under this funding scheme, RISUD provides seed money to support novel and interdisciplinary research with great potential for large external funding. Applicants should specify a timeline for planned research tasks and external sources of funding applications derived from this scheme.
Interdisciplinary Research Scheme
Along the direction of RISUD by leading to the conduct of cutting-edge research into solutions to problems generated by high-density urban development, a scheme named Interdisciplinary Research Scheme is launched to provide funding for the encouragement of research collaborations among different departments and faculties, and among various Research Institutes (RIs) in PolyU. The research topics should be interdisciplinary aimed to proposing advance agendas for sustainable development. Applicants should clearly identify external sources of funding and specify a timeline for proposal submission that will be pursued as a result of this internal funding.
