I am Fung Kai Hang, Timothy. I studied basic biological sciences for my bachelor’s degree, acquiring knowledge about technology and scientific theories. My research focused on laboratory animal experiments. In animal studies, we can find out the mechanism of disease development through different mechanical pathways. The type of disease I have encountered most is pulmonary disease. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a major disease I am focusing on. COPD is a smoking-related disease that may cause death. It will have important impact on the respiratory function and exercise ability.
In my research study, I will investigate the underlying impact of COPD on the pulmonary system, skeletal muscles and the nervous system. Afterward, I will further establish a technical medical system or advance exciting technology implementation to attenuate the impact of COPD. Thus my research aims to enhance the scientific innovation ability to tackle the mechanical problem of the disease, and develop pertinent treatment methods. Choosing to study at the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, I will strive to develop my research strategy and believe that my research would contribute to my university and society at large. I hope my knowledge would help link up basic science to rehabilitation science.
