I am Zhang Bingbing, a full-time PhD student under Dr Georg S. Kranz’s supervision. I received my Bachelor of Natural Science in Rehabilitation Therapy from Sichuan University in 2016. Then I moved on to study at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, PolyU, in August 2018 and got my master’s degree with distinction one year later. I chose to study my PhD degree at RS of PolyU because of its world-class education and research in the field of rehabilitation. My PhD study focuses on testing the neuromodulation effects of theta-burst stimulation, especially the effects of priming theta-burst stimulation on people with subthreshold depression. Mental disorders are estimated to be the leading burden worldwide in terms of years lived with disability and are associated with economic costs that are higher than those of cardiovascular disorders, cancer and diabetes combined. Thus my study will contribute to endeavours of mental illness prevention as set out by the WHO’s overall public health strategy.
