Biography
Ir Ben WAT is a Structural Engineer by profession. He is a member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. After he graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Civil and Structural Engineering, he possesses over twenty year’s bountiful experiences in the local construction industry.
In the early 2000s, he joined the Government in the Housing Department. Since then, he serves a wide spectrum of duties to assist the Department in structural engineering works including foundation and superstructure design, site construction administration, contract administration and building control administration of various housing projects.
Now as the Senior Structural Engineer, Development and Construction Section of the Housing Department, he assists in public housing developments of the Hong Kong Housing Authority, by providing central support to project teams in terms of standard design.

Smart Initiatives in Public Housing Developments
Abstract
The Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) is a strong advocate of using smart construction technologies to meet uprising challenges in the delivery of public housing, and strives on all fronts to take forward smart technologies for improving efficiency, expediting speed of construction, enhancing quality and safety performance of public housing developments.
This presentation will give an overview of the latest development of Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) and other precast concrete construction technologies, and introduce the latest technologies and digitalisation process currently employed or explored by HA at various stages of public housing developments. These innovative technologies such as the enhanced use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) from planning to design and construction stage, implementation of Innovation and Technology (I&T) for site safety and site management, as well as the measures adopted for sustainable construction, will be presented.
