We have waited four years for ICLASP17 and it is going to happen as planned in Hong Kong!!
We have decided that the conference will be online. This was a tough decision but we will ensure it will be an interactive conference and everyone will engage with ICLASP17:2022.
The conference will be held in Hong Kong between 22 to 25 June 2022. ICLASP17 will connect scholars who engage in sociopsychological research and analysis concerning the role of language in society. The conference will feature many of the distinguished, high profile keynote speakers who were invited to be part of the 2020 Conference.
Full details regarding the call for papers are now available and will extend until 1 February 2022. Authors will be notified of the status of their submissions by 1 March 2022.

We have waited four years for ICLASP17 and it is going to happen as planned in Hong Kong!!
We are going to organize a hybrid conference because we know some people will physically attend but some may not be able to do so and can only participate online. We want everyone to get the most out of ICLASP17:2022. The organizing committee has begun planning with the IALSP Executive and we will be sending regular updates to you from the middle of this year.

[11 June 2020]
Given the current global health crisis and the associated travel and immigration restrictions, the ICLASP17:2020 organising committee has decided to postpone the conference, which was due to take place at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University in December 2020.
We have been corresponding with our keynote speakers and it seems we will be able to transfer over much of the current program to the new dates. We hope as many of you as possible will be able to come to ICLASP17:2022 which will be held in June. Details about the updated ICLASP17:2022 will be circulated once they are available. Registration is now suspended and will open once a new call for papers has been announced. Please check back on this website regularly for latest update of the conference.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We hope that you and your families are safe and healthy during this difficult time, and we look forward to seeing you at the rescheduled ICLASP17:2022.

Dear Colleagues
The IALSP Executive and PolyU have been discussing the best way forward with ICLASP17:2020 given the virus outbreak. As you will know from previous announcements we debated a mix of virtual and face-to-face or just virtual for June. The idea of virtual only was appealing except it took away a key reason for ICLASP - meeting like minded colleagues and introducing our postgraduate students to our association.
We have now decided to postpone the conference until December 2020. This is a good compromise as it keeps our bienniel conference arrangment and allows time for people to consider coming to Hong Kong at a time of year that is extremely pleasant temperature wise.
This means that the CfP wil be extended. However, given the strict timelines for our Chinese colleagues we are going to have two deadlines for CfP. The first will be 1 May for those in Mainland China and we will provide feedback and acceptance by mid May. The second will be 1 June for others and we will provide feedback and acceptance by end June.
More details will follow shortly. The new date for ICLASP17:2020 is 9 to 12 December. Please contact us via email to iclasp17@polyu.edu.hk if you have any questions.
Warm wishes for the organising party at PolyU.
Best

Dear Colleagues
The Coronavirus development is something that IALSP and the Host Committee at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University are watching closely. It is too early to say how serious it will become but the Host Committee feels we need to think ahead. With this in mind, we are looking at the possibility of virtual attendance and also virtual presentations. This arrangement would mean that you could choose to present your paper live or record and send the recording in. If live, you could enjoy questions from the audience, if recorded, we can set up a forum for participants to contact you later with questions.
These ideas are in the very early stage of development but in the interests of making ICLASP17: 2020 a diverse and interesting forum for exchanging ideas, we need to look further than face to face presentations. With these new opportunities in mind, I urge you to submit your papers and support the conference. A virtual registration would, of course, be much cheaper and we will work out the logistics as soon as possible.
The IALSP Executive and I will discuss this at their executive meeting next week.
Warm wishes

Chinese New Year (The Year of the Rat) falls early this year and is at the end of January. To honor our Hong Kong hosts and their traditions, we have decided to extend the deadline for the call for papers. The new deadline is 17 February at close of business USA time.
