Summary
'Communication Around You' is a Secondary School Workshop Series organised by our Department.
A series of three workshops will be organised between October and December 2020 to allow senior secondary school students to learn how English is, in fact, closely related to our everyday lives. Students will also get to see how studying linguistics can be both a science and a practical skill!
Workshop 3 – Smart living with language technology
Technology has penetrated every part of modern life. With smartphones, we get the latest information about shops nearby, we book tables at restaurants, we exchange messages and we enjoy immersive games with friends. At the Department of English, our teachers and students apply our linguistic knowledge to develop the next generation of language technologies. Our vocabulary-learning app IdiomsTube is now used by 7,800 learners worldwide. Join my talk to discover the fascinating work that we do behind the scenes to develop smart language technologies and to learn how you can be part of our team!
Target participants: Secondary 4 to 6 students
Cost: Free of charge
* An attendance certificate will be issued to each participant having joined the programme and completed an online survey.
