In this new article published in the Journal of Pragmatics, our Research Assistant Professor Dr Jamie McKeown examines the use of reflexive metadiscourse in majority and dissent opinions of the U.S. Supreme Court.
The results identify highly significant differences in the discursive foci of majority and dissent opinions as well as the use of individual metadiscourse markers. The article concludes with a clarion call for greater interdisciplinary collaboration in the area of legal discourse.
