Summary
Globally, social work education has experienced varied responses from academics, students, and practitioners. Social Work supervisors and practitioners alike have suggested a focused improvement in standards of education and training so that graduates demonstrate principled and innovative practice whilst adhering to the ideologies of social work. However, given the varied academic, social, economic, and political contexts of different societies, scholars have predicted these as hinderance factors to the implementation of global guidelines or standards. The value-add of the 2020 IASSW Global Standards for Social Work Education (2020) is that it is a means to assist many schools of social work to progressively aspire to a set of standards and guidelines that would see social work as an established, contemporary, advanced yet well-grounded discipline that supports and promotes social justice and human rights.
