Department of Applied Physics Department of Applied Physics 118 Qualification BSc (HUST) PhD (HUST) Postdoc (Penn State) ORCID ID 0000-0002-6186-5169 Prof. HAO Jianhua Chair Professor of Materials Physics and Devices Research Overview My main research interests include (1) Functional thin-films, two-dimensional layered materials & heterostructures, including pulsed laser deposited functional ultrathin films and heterostructures, ferroelectric oxide thin-films, chemical vapor deposition and physical deposition of wafer-scale 2D materials and heterostructures for electronics and optoelectronics device applications, physical properties such as ferroelectricity and piezoelectricity in 2D layered structures; (2) Luminescence and phosphors for photonic and biomedical applications, including coupling of smart materials to multifunctional phosphors, upconversion nanoparticles for multimodal bioimaging and biosensor, piezophotonics and piezo-phototronics, metal-doped light-emission devices; (3) Sustainable energy materials and devices, including mechanical harvesting nanogenerator, self- powered, self-healing and shape-tailorable devices, colossal permittivity materials as superior dielectric energy devices, and nanomaterials for efficient energy conversion and storage.
