12 Research Focus Our current research focuses on the following 3 areas: • Fashion and Textile Design • Fashion Business • Fashion and Textile Technology Fashion and Textile Design This research area involves 4 key directions: • Cultural design : including fashion and textile design innovation with traditional and modern cultural elements, costume art and fashion creation, HK style fashions, fashion and textile arts, wearable arts and more. • Social design : including fashion for a variety of communities and institutions with special requirements such as business districts, care centers, hospitals, schools, and enterprises etc. • Func tional design : including high per formance sportswear design, innovative metallic textiles design, uniform and activity wear design, interactive photonic textile design, wearable electronics design, ergonomic design and more. • Digital fashion design : including Artificial Intelligence (AI) assisted visual and pattern design, virtual fitting, 3D/4D body scanning, mobile body measurement and garment fitting and more. Fashion Business Our fashion business research involves 3 key directions: • Sustainable fashion : including slow fashion, circular fashion, sustainable consumption, green services, green supply chains, social innovation, health and safety, etc. • Artificial intelligence : including computer vision, image feature analysis, big data analysis, optimization, natural language programming, social media, etc. • Brand experience : including virtual reality as well as brick & mortar experience, visual merchandising, consumer psychology and behavior, omni-channel experiences, service quality, etc. Fashion and Textile Technology This research area involves 4 key directions: • Smart wearable technology : including textile based energy harvesting, conversion and storage devices, wearable photonics and electronics, fibers, flexible sensors and actuators, artificial muscles, artificial skin sensors, soft robotics and more. Institute of Textiles and Clothing • Textile processing and coloration technology : including bionic chromatic materials, bio-based green colorants, functional and smart textile and garment surface treatments, non-contact image-based color measurement, color communication technologies and more. • Human factor & functional clothing technologies : including personal moisture and thermal management, thermoregulatory wearables, active and passive cooling systems, air filtration textiles, multifunctional clothing, functional compression textiles and clothing, ergonomic comfort clothing, clothing biomechanics and more. • Advanced fibrous materials & technology : including biopolymeric and biomimic materials, medical fibrous materials, auxetic textiles, super thermal conducting and isolation fibrous materials, mono-axial directional water transportation fibrous materials, air conditional fibrous materials and more.
