This has potential applications in thermophysiological comfort, UV-protection and related applications. We are currently working on wet chemical synthesis and analysis methods for the durable incorporation of various thermally-responsive phase change systems onto soft matter substrates for controllable and reversible smart material responses over a desired temperature range. Antimicrobial materials & medical textiles The growing worldwide threat from multi-drug resistant bacteria and viruses requires new and effective infection-prevention strategies are needed to save lives and improve clinical outcomes worldwide. Materials with biocidal capability are one such possibility. We are currently investigating and optimizing the experimental performance of nanoparticle-incorporated soft matter to (1) enhance antibacterial and photo-degradative capabilities, and (2) increase durability of adhesion.
