On 6 November 2019, 2 delegates from the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), UK, and 3 from its Hong Kong branch visited the Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) and were warmly welcomed by FCE representatives. IStructE (UK) President Dr Joe Kindregan and the Chairman of its Hong Kong Regional Group Ir Prof. James C.W. Lau each delivered a speech. Prof. You-Lin Xu, Dean of FCE, then introduced the Faculty, which was followed by presentations from other colleagues of BRE, CEE, and LSGI: Prof. Albert Chan, Prof. Heng Li, Prof. Yiqing Ni, Prof. Jianguo Dai, Dr Tak Ming Chan, Dr Siu Kai Lai, Dr You Dong, Prof. Xiaoli Ding and Prof. John Shi.
The delegates subsequently visited the Smart Construction Lab with Prof. Heng Li of the Department of Building and Real Estate (BRE), the Smart Cities Lab with Prof. John Shi, Head of the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI), the Hong Kong branch of the Chinese National Rail Transit Electrification and Automation Engineering Technology Research Centre with its Director, Prof. Yiqing Ni of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), the Hong Kong branch of the Chinese National Engineering Research Centre for Steel Construction with its Director, Prof. Kwok Fai Chung of CEE, and the Structural Engineering Research Lab with Dr Tak Ming Chan of CEE. The visit gave the delegates a better idea of the ongoing research at FCE and the developments at some major labs.
