With its range of research expertise in the construction and environment fields, the Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) is uniquely positioned to develop innovative solutions for problems arising from the massive urbanization around the world. Accomplishing sustainable urban development is one of the crucial challenges for Hong Kong as well as other large, vibrant cities in the twenty-first century. Sustainable Urban Development and Smart City have therefore been identified as the major research directions of the Faculty.
Through research, innovation, entrepreneurship, consultancy service, and professional training provided by our faculty members, the Faculty is a place where research and innovation meets application to address major issues related to urban planning and development.
Interdisciplinary by nature, the focused research areas of our four departments all contribute to Sustainable Urban Development and Smart City, which impinge on and are informed by the areas of Construction, Energy, Environment, Urban Hazards Mitigation and Urban-informatics, as illustrated in the chart below. By consolidating our strengths in the interlocking areas, the Faculty is on its way to becoming a world leader in creating innovative solutions for Sustainable Urban Development and Smart City.
