The Faculty of Construction and Environment offers a range of opportunities to support our students and prospective students in achieving their academic goals and holistic development. We encourage eligible students to apply and take advantage of these valuable resources to facilitate their studies at FCE.

Undergraduates

The Dean’s Honours List is intended as a way to give recognition to students who have achieved outstanding academic performance in the academic year in question.

For the sake of recognising students with outstanding results in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE), the Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) offers the FCE Entry Scholarship and Bursary for Outstanding HKDSE Students from 2024/25 admission exercise onwards.

The University offers scholarships to outstanding international applicants to help cover their undergraduate tuition fees and living expenses. The Faculty of Construction and Environment also offers tuition waiver scholarships to eligible international applicants. The scholarships are renewable every year subject to students’ academic performance at PolyU.

Postgraduates

Objective

To recognise outstanding PhD students in the Faculty of Construction and Environment who have distinguished themselves with the quality of their theses for their PhD degree at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

 

Eligibility

Only full-time and part-time PhD students registered under FCE whose PhD theses’ overall quality was rated as “excellent” by the Board of Examiners (BoE) concerned and whose degrees have been ratified by the Graduate School Board (GSB) between 1 July of the preceding year and 30 June of the application year are eligible to be nominated for the academic year concerned. The student’s registration period for the research programme should not have exceeded the University’s stipulated maximum period of study for a PhD programme.

 

Nomination Procedures

When a thesis has been rated “excellent” by the BoE concerned, and the supervisor(s) of the same thesis consider(s) it worthy of nomination, the Chief Supervisor shall submit the nomination to the Departmental Research Committee (DRC) by the specific deadline announced each year.

 

The Award

A cash prize of HK$15,000 and a certificate signed by the Dean of Faculty will be issued to each awardee.

 

The amount of cash prize is subject to review and adjustment by the Faculty from time to time, as deemed necessary and in accordance with the University’s Award System, without prior notice.

With the aim of retaining and attracting high-calibre graduates of the Faculty of Construction and Environment to pursue taught/research postgraduate programmes offered by the four constituent departments of FCE, a funding scheme is established by FCE to support and promote departmental entry scholarships for taught/research postgraduate programmes.

Priority will be given to graduates of the Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) of PolyU in recent 3 years with outstanding academic performance.

The 3 Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition challenges doctoral researchers to compete to deliver the best research presentation in just 3 minutes using a single PowerPoint slide. In response to the PolyU 3MT® launched in 2023, the Faculty and its Departments host a multi-level 3MT® competition. Winners at each level will advance to the next, culminating in the PolyU 3MT®.

The Faculty of Construction and Environment invites students worldwide to join our full-time PhD studies via the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS), established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong in 2009.
