FCE Award for Tomorrow's Leaders

Objective

The Award aims to recognise undergraduate students in the Faculty of Construction and Environment who have demonstrated a strong commitment to becoming construction and environmental professionals or leaders through active engagement in activities that enhance their knowledge, skills, and professional network in the construction or environmental fields.

 

Selection Criteria

Applicants must:

  1. Be registered as a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in any schemes/programmes offered by the FCE constitute departments in the year of the award;
  2. Achieve a cumulative GPA of no less than 3.0 at the time of application;
  3. Be free of disciplinary records;
  4. Provide ONE recommendation letter from the programme leader or deputy programme leader; and
  5. Fulfil the eligibility requirements listed below.

Candidates must submit a visionary statement of no more than 500 words in English, demonstrating their ambition and aspiration to join the Hong Kong construction industry or environmental field, as well as providing evidence of their personal and professional growth through involvement in activities outside the classroom. Any activities that enhance skills or knowledge related to a career path in the construction and environmental fields will be considered. Eligible activities may include but are not limited to:

  1. Participating in mentorship schemes organised by the Department/Faculty/University.
  2. Serving the Department/Faculty/University and delivering at least one student recruitment talk at a secondary school.
  3. Receiving an award in discipline-related external competitions.
  4. Completing professional development courses offered by recognised institutions, such as The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers.
  5. Engaging in active networking through involvement in Department/Faculty student associations or participating in activities organised by professional bodies.
  6. Completing additional discipline-related internships or placements beyond the requirements of the Work-Integrated Education (WIE) programme.
  7. Participating in exchange programmes (lasting no less than four weeks) or study tours (lasting no less than seven days).
  8. Engaging in the Undergraduate Research and Innovation Scheme (URIS).

The following selection criteria carry equal weighting:

  1. Aspirations to become a construction and environmental professional/leader.
  2. Commitment to serving the Department/Faculty/University, the Hong Kong construction and environmental industry, and/or the Nation.
  3. Determination in self-growth and professional development.
  4. Substantial career exposure experience.

Application Procedures

Invitations for applications will be made annually in May/June. Interested students should complete the application form and submit it along with all required supporting documents and one recommendation letter to the host department by the specified deadline. Applications without necessary supporting documents will not be considered. The Award

Each awardee will receive a cash prize of HK$5,000 and a certificate signed by the Dean of Faculty. Each recipient can only receive the award once throughout his/her course of study at PolyU FCE.


The above information will be reviewed regularly without prior notice. FCE reserves the right to change or withdraw the Award at any time. In the event of any dispute/disagreement, FCE’s decision shall be final.
